China is one of few countries that still enforces a Zero COVID policy. There are strict restrictions, mass testing and lockdowns. People also have to be scanned for health codes whenever they travel.
The policy has not prevented mass hospitalisations but the strict pandemic restrictions are facing increasing economic and social pressure with falling productivity and growing unemployment and what some observers call mass surveillance of its population.
Sally Lockwood and Helen-Ann Smith, Sky News Daily’s Asia correspondent, discuss China’s strict Zero COVID policy. Cindy Yu, host, Chinese Whispers podcast, discusses the reasons behind China’s policies.
