An easy mistake? Artwork hung upside down for 75 years

A work of art has been hanging upside-down for over 75 years.

New York City I is a key work of Piet Mondrian, but experts believe that it was not the right way up for many decades.

It will be the same regardless of the fact that the strips used for the artwork may become loose.

This picture was made in 1941. It was first displayed at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1945.

It has been hung in Dusseldorf’s Kunstsammlung Nordrhein Westfalen since 1980.

Susanne MeyerBuser, curator, spoke about the history and uses of the art. Then, she shocked the audience by revealing the secret.

She claimed she had found a Mondrian photo in her studio, which was taken just a few days before his death in 1944. The picture could be seen on an easel in a different orientation, with the thicker stripes at the upper edge.

She told The Guardian that the thickening of grid should be at top like a dark night.

“Once we realized it was obvious, we pointed it out to other curators.” “I am certain that the picture is not the right way.”

Mondrian was born in the Netherlands, 1872. He is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th Century.
