Russian pop star denounces Ukraine war and asks to be named a foreign agent

Russian singer, who has condemned Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine, asked for solidarity with her husband by being added to her country’s list of foreign agents.

Russia’s justice ministry added Maxim Galkin, a singer and television presenter, to Alla Pugacheva’s husband list of foreign agents on Friday.

He has been critical of Russia’s sending troops into Ukraine, which has made him an outcast in a country that is becoming more dangerous for dissent.

He was accused of engaging in political activities for Ukraine and receiving funding from Ukraine.

Ms. Pugacheva posted on Instagram: “I request you to include me in the ranks of foreign agents for my beloved country because it is in solidarity with my spouse.”

She described Mr Galkin, as a “true, incorruptible patriot”, who seeks “prosperity for the motherland, peace and freedom of speech.”

She stated that Ukraine’s “illusory” goals by the Kremlin “make our country a pariah, and make the lives of our citizens extremely hard”.
