Paul Pogba, a former Manchester United midfielder, paid EUR100,000. (PS85,000) for a group that tried to extort him to pay millions of euros, French officials claim.
France’s prosecutor is investigating claims that Pogba was the victim of theft by an organized group that included Mathias his brother and childhood friends.
The midfielders were allegedly made to pay EUR13m (PS11m), and they intimidated him repeatedly, claiming that he didn’t support them after he was an international footballer.
A source close to the investigation said that Pogba had told investigators that he had already given EUR100,000.
France reports that the payment was made in April by the midfielder after he was threatened in March by armed men at his Paris flat. He was there for international games.
They also demanded that the Juventus training center in Turin be closed to the group. According to French public broadcaster, Pogba claimed that his brother was part of the group.
Mathias, a French star and entrepreneur, posted a video and tweeted last weekend that threatened to reveal “explosive revelations” regarding his brother and Kylian Mbappe.
Mathias, a former player for Wrexham Crewe, Crawleytown and Partick Thistle said that he almost died due to Paul Pogba in one video.

Paul Pogba’s lawyer responded by releasing a statement stating that his brother’s claims were “included in threats and extortion efforts by an organised criminal gang”.
Monday’s statement by the Paris prosecutor stated that it has opened an investigation into an attempted extortion.
