Russian forces take control of key Ukraine power plant – and push more troops south

Russian forces have taken control over Ukraine’s second-largest power plant and are now pushing maximum troops into three key areas in the south.

These bold actions were made amid the expectation of a Ukrainian counter-offensive. President Volodymyrzelenskyy vowed to recapture Kherson, the southern city that fell to Russia in early stages of the war.

Russian-backed forces claimed Wednesday that they had seized intact the Soviet-era Vuhlehirsk coal-fired power plant. This was Moscow’s first significant victory in over three weeks.

Oleksiy Arestovych a Ukrainian adviser, said that it was merely a “small tactical advantage” for Russia.

Reuters also reported that Ukraine had attacked a bridge crossing the Dnipro River in Kherson and closed it off to traffic.

Russian officials were not discouraged and said that they would instead use pontoon bridges or ferries to move their forces.

In his nightly address, President Zelenskyy stated that he was doing all he could to make sure the occupying force does not have any logistical options in his country.
