Police in Denmark claim that several people were killed in a shooting at Copenhagen’s shopping center.
Copenhagen police said that one person was arrested in connection to the shootings. They identified the perpetrator as a 22-year-old ethnically Danish male.
Chief inspector Soeren Tomsen stated that the force did not rule out the possibility of terror-related incidents at Field’s shopping center, which is one of the largest in Scandinavia.
According to the police, they maintain a substantial presence at the site. They declined to comment about the nature of the weapon used.
“We are still present in Field’s, and we are working to secure the entire structure.” They advised that if you’re still at Field’s, you should stay there and wait for the police.
“Citizens are advised not to contact police with non-urgent inquires unless they relate to Field’s shooting.”
Local media reported that three people were admitted to a trauma center at one of Copenhagen’s main hospitals.
Chief inspector Thomassen stated that police received the first reports about the shooting at 5.30pm.
He stated that there was no evidence to suggest the perpetrator was conspiring with others.
Reuters photos show families with young children running from the mall.
Another image shows an ambulance outside, with armed police officers.
Sophie Andersen, Copenhagen’s Lord Mayor, tweeted: “Terrible reports about shooting in Fields. It is extremely serious, though we don’t know how many have been injured or killed.
“The emergency preparedness has been called for Copenhagen,” she said, referring to the municipality’s disaster response plan.
Officially, the exact number of people who were killed or injured has not yet been announced.
Local media outlets shared photographs showing heavily armed police at the scene as well as at least ten ambulances.
At 7pm UK Time, Harry Styles, a British singer, was scheduled to perform this evening at a venue near the mall.
He wrote in a Snapchat message: “My team, I pray for all involved in the Copenhagen shopping center shooting. I am shocked.”
Live Nation, the concert promoter, initially stated that the concert would continue at 8pm.
Fans have complained on the Facebook page of the promoter that they have not been allowed to enter the arena where the concert is yet to begin.
The concert was cancelled by them at 8.45pm, according to a person present on the stage. This is apparently under the direction of the police who are now taking fans out of the arena.
The Danish Royal Family announced they had cancelled a dinner planned to celebrate the opening stages of the Tour de France in Denmark.
