Reports indicate that at least 17 people were killed in a South African nightclub.
According to the Daily Dispatch news website, emergency services were called to the Enyobeni Tavern, Scenery Park, at the eastern edge of East London (Eastern Cape province), in the early hours Sunday.
Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, Eastern Cape police spokesperson, said that among those who died were young adults between 18-20 years old.
He stated that the SAPS confirmed that 17 people were killed in Scenery Park in East London.
“We received the report in the early morning of Sunday. We are currently investigating the circumstances of this incident.
“We don’t want to speculate at this stage.” “Our investigation is ongoing.”
Later, he confirmed to Reuters that the circumstances in which they died were under investigation and added that it was too early for us to determine the cause of death.
The Daily Dispatch reported that 22 people have died.
The Isolezwe News, a Zulu-language newspaper, reports that eyewitnesses told them that bodies were “all around” and there was no sign of injury.
