The UK has placed more sanctions on Russia, targeting both military leaders and goods such as caviar or diamonds.
According to the UK, Azatbek Omurbekov was a lieutenant colonel, nicknamed “the butcher in Bucha”, and one of the Russian army leaders who were affected by the new sanctions.
Britain will raise tariffs by 35% for Russian and Belarussian products, including silver and caviar.
According to Rishi Sunak, the sanctions increase Russia’s total import tariffs to PS1bn.
The Thursday round of sanctions targets people outside of the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s military, who actively support his invasion of Ukraine.
Oleg Belozyorov is the CEO and Chairman of Russian Railways’ vital logistics company Russian Railways. Ilya Kiva is a defecting and expelled Ukrainian politician who publicly supports Russia’s actions against Ukraine.
“The Russian aggression on the Ukrainian people is a depraved act of war. They are targeting schools, hospitals, and transport hubs in Mariupol, and elsewhere – just like they did in Chechnya or Syria,” stated Liz Truss, Foreign Secretary.
“The UK is not willing to give up on Ukraine’s support and hold Putin and his government accountable. The new sanctions that were imposed today are directed at the generals and defense companies with blood on their hands.
Since Mr Putin’s invasion of Ukraine one month ago, more than 1000 Russian oligarchs have been sanctioned.
