A couple of children riding in minicars at the Invictus Games, the Netherlands, took the Duke and Duchess Sussex for a spin.
They made their first public appearance in Europe together since quitting their senior working royalties over two years ago.
Harry and Meghan were able to hop into tiny open-topped Land Rover vehicles driven ahead of Saturday’s opening ceremony at The Hague.
Harry created the Invictus Games in order to help wounded or sick veterans and military personnel from around the world. It gives them the opportunity to compete in sporting events that are similar to the Paralympics.
They arrived at Zuiderpark at lunchtime. The couple looked relaxed and casual as they chatted with people.
Both wore sunglasses, met children on a track near the main driving course, and then sat in the passenger area next to their young drivers.
Mya Poirot, a five-year old French girl, drove Meghan around while Scarlet Vroegop, a four-year-old Dutch girl was driving Harry.
The Duke also participated in the Jaguar Land Rover driving challenge. He sat in the front passenger seat, and helped navigate a course of bridges, ramps, and rocks.
The couple hadn’t been seen together on this side since 2020, prior to Friday.
Harry and Meghan made their first public appearance together at Invictus Games nearly five years ago.
After stepping down from royal duties in January 2020, he and Meghan relocated to California.
After visiting Queen in Windsor, they made their appearance at the Zuiderpark on Thursday. They had flown in from the USA.
After the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral service in London last month, Harry and Meghan are now on their way to the UK.
They will speak at Saturday’s opening ceremony and address the audience. The event will be televised and attended by the prime minister of the Netherlands and members of the royal family.
Live performances will be featured at the ceremony, including from the Kaiser Chiefs.
