Four people have been reported missing after diving off the coast Malaysian islands.
The training exercise was off Pulau Tokong Sanggol nine miles from Mersing’s coastal town of Mersing, and the 46-year old man and the 14-yearold boy took part.
Also, a 35-year old woman from Norway and a French 18-year-old went missing.
Malaysia’s Maritime Enforcement Agency started a search-and-rescue operation Wednesday afternoon. However, it was stopped that evening because of poor visibility.
It was restarted Thursday morning.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been in touch with the resort where the Britons were staying and have provided consular assistance.
Although it has not yet received any request for assistance, it is ready to help the family of the missing Britons.
Malaysia’s borders were closed more than two decades ago during the pandemic. They were reopened only at the beginning of the month.
Officials said that Malaysian tourists flocked to Malaysia for more than 55,000 in the first four days following the opening of the border.
