Battlefield in the northern Ukraine 'largely static' says Ministry of Defence as local counterattacks hamper Russian forces

According to the Ministry of Defence, while the battlefield in Ukraine is “largely still”, Russian troops are now focusing their efforts on the “encirclement of Ukrainian forces in eastern Ukraine,” the Ministry of Defence stated.

According to the MoD’s latest intelligence update, Russian efforts to reorganise their forces have been hampered by local counterattacks.

It stated that Russian forces appeared to be concentrating efforts to attempt to encircle Ukrainian forces directly facing separatist regions of the east. They are moving from the direction Kharkiv (north) and Mariupol (south).

The mayor of Chernihiv has stated that there are concerns Chernihiv in the north could be the next Mariupol. There are 44 seriously injured people, including three children, who cannot be evacuated to receive treatment.

Russian forces have taken the city out of its grasp.

Lviv in the West has also been under attack, as Putin’s forces struck a fuel depot equipped with high-precision cruise missiles.

According to Ukraine’s deputy prime Minister, two humanitarian corridors were established for Sunday.

Minister Iryna Veselchuk stated that the corridors will be used to evacuate civilians from frontline regions. They will start in the Luhansk region and continue through Donetsk. It will also include private car-towed residents leaving Mariupol.

Sanctions could end if invasion ends

According to the foreign secretary, sanctions against banks, oligarchs and businesses could be lifted if Russia ceases its invasion of Ukraine.

Liz Truss, speaking to Sunday Telegraph, stated that “snapback Sanctions” would be maintained if Russia’s president attacked again.

Ms Truss stated that a “negotiations team” was established at the Foreign Office in order to assist with possible peace negotiations.

Explosions ‘Powerful’ outside Lviv

While the Kremlin continues to struggle with its troops, her comments might be seen as an encouragement for Vladimir Putin to reduce his losses and reach a deal to help Ukraine.

These comments are similar to those made by Antony Blinken (US secretary of State), who stated that asset freezes and travel bans were “not intended to be permanent”.

Sophy Ridge was informed Sunday by Nadhim Zahawi that the Russian military had miscalculated its invasion of Ukraine.

He said, “The Ukrainians have fought as lions.” They’ve defended their country. They believe in freedom.

He said that any potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine must be reached “face-to-face” between Presidents Zelenskyy (and Putin)

Putin “cannot stay in power”

Joe Biden said that Russia’s president “cannot stay in power” in a speech in which he appealed to Russia to end the war and assured the Ukrainians that the US is there for them.

In a powerful speech delivered in Warsaw, Poland by the US President, he reaffirmed earlier comments in which he called Vladimir Putin a “butcher”. He also described him as “a dictator” and said that stopping the war in Ukraine was “the task for our time”.

He stated that “Brutality won’t bring down the will to be Free.” Russia will not win Ukraine.”

“For God’s sake, this person cannot remain in power,” Mr Biden said at the end his speech.

Later, the White House denied that the US president had called for regime change.

The speech by Mr Biden ends a four day trip that included a stop in Brussels for a series summits.

Responding to Mr Biden’s comments, a Kremlin spokesperson said that it was not up to Biden to make the decision. Russians elect the president of Russia.

“This man cannot stay in power”

Biden also stated to Russians that they were “not the enemy”, and refused to believe they would accept the violence and misery caused by their troops in Ukraine.

He said that “millions of families are being forced from their homes, including half the children of Ukraine.”

“These are not actions of a great country.”

Just hours earlier, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zilenskyy gave one of his regular addresses. He called for more Western nations to send more planes, tanks and anti-missile defense missiles.
