Nazanin Zaghari Rahcliffe, a British-Iranian national held in Iran, was able to have her British passport returned, Tulip Siddiq, her MP in Britain, said.
Ms. Siddiq claims she knows there is a British negotiation team in Tehran, where she is being held.
Hampstead MP and Kilburn MP tweeted: “I’m very happy to report that Nazanin Zaghari Rahcliffe has received her British passport back.
“She is still at her family’s home in Tehran. I understand there is a British team currently in Tehran to negotiate.
“I will continue posting updates as soon as I receive them.”
After being accused of spying, Mrs Zaghari Rahi-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian dual citizen, has been held in Iran custody since 2016.
She was going to Tehran to visit her daughter when she was detained at Tehran Airport.
Later she was sentenced to another year and a one-year travel ban. This raised fears that she would be sent back into prison.
According to her family members, she was informed by local authorities that she was being held in detention because the UK failed to pay a PS400m Iran debt.
Liz Truss, the Foreign Secretary to Britain, stated that the PS400 million Britain owes Iran was a “legitimate” debt that the government would like to repay.
Richard Ratcliffe, Mrs Zaghari Ratcliffe’s husband, has been vocal in calling for her release. He even camped outside the Foreign Office in London during a three-week hunger strike that took place in November 2021.
Amnesty International UK’s chief executive Sacha Deshmukh warned that it was important to be cautious about the most recent reports, as there have been “false dawns after false dawns” over the long-running process.
He stated, “We sincerely hope that these reports are accurate.
“The families of the detainees have suffered for many years and a quick resolution is impossible.”
